How Teeth Whitening gives you a 100 Watt Smile and Boosts Confidence

Anything that makes me feel good adds to my confidence in so many ways. I could wear beautiful diamond earrings, have my hair coloured a certain way, wear the most gorgeous dress and those Jimmy Choo heels I love. The moment I step out of the house in my favourite attire, the confidence that oozes from my persona is noticeable.

Adding to all of this, just last week I got my teeth whitened at my Dentist and now I have a dazzling smile to compliment all this. The compliments that I am getting from my friends right now is superlative!!

Bleaching/whitening of your teeth is a very safe and a much needed procedure for people whose confidence and self-esteem need a boost. A smile is an external expression of your inner beauty. People feel the need to hide their smiles when they have stained or discoloured teeth but little do they know that smiling can boost your mood and even your immune system (which is the need of the hour) as the act of smiling releases endorphins which in turn tend to make a person happier, less anxious and gives the person the ability to enjoy life more.

A great smile can:
  • Help you live longer
  • Relieve stress
  • Elevate mood
  • Be contagious and spread the cheer around
  • Boost the immune system
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Reduce pain
  • Make you look attractive
  • Suggest success
  • Help you stay positive in life

How can teeth get discoloured?
  • Even though the enamel is the hardest substance in the human body – it is slightly porous and can be affected by substances and particles. When this occurs the tooth can experience colour changes.
  • Poor oral hygiene favours the deposit of dental plaque and in turn forms tartar. Tartar is yellow in colour and it eventually reduces the brightness of the smile.
  • Food and drinks affect the health and colour of the teeth as well. Some examples are:
    • Cigarettes
    • Tea, coffee, red wine
    • Aging
    • Artificial colours added to food
    • Sour food intake in excess such as apple cider vinegar
    • Use of mouthwashes containing chlorhexidine without prescription

Teeth whitening

To bring the teeth back to a white and bright colour one should get a professional cleaning done once every 6-12 months. There are certain types of whitening treatments that can be done, they are both rapid and non-invasive to lessen the yellowish discolouration of teeth. While the techniques are effective, they are not permanent. The results last depending on an individual’s habits. The most common whitening technique used is the ‘in-office’ or the ‘Dental Chair procedure’ in which the bleaching system is enhanced using special lights.

Professionally done whitening techniques minimize the occurrence of possible side effects such as excessive thermal sensitivity and gingival irritation. They can appear at the end of the treatment but generally regress spontaneously within 24-48 hours.

In conclusion, teeth whitening is an effective way to lighten stains or remove them completely and give you the 100 watt smile that you deserve!
